Exciting tech events we plan to attend and host in 2025
With January drawing to a close, the year ahead is shaping up to be filled with exciting conferences and events that showcase the latest innovations in open source, cloud-native technologies, and IT infrastructure. Here’s a closer look at the events we’re most looking forward to.
FOSDEM
The first event we will be attending this year is FOSDEM (Free and Open Source Developers’ European Meeting). FOSDEM will be held in Brussels, Belgium, the 1st and 2nd of February. It is one of the largest open source gatherings in the world. This free event attracts developers, engineers, and enthusiasts from across the globe to discuss advancements, collaborate on projects, and exchange ideas.
For 2025, the program includes over 1,100 speakers, 1,000+ sessions, and nearly 80 tracks, covering everything from programming languages to hardware solutions. A standout addition this year is the FOSDEM Fringe, featuring informal events around the main conference, and FOSDEM Junior, designed for young tech enthusiasts. The keynote by Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, has generated some debate due to his association with cryptocurrencies, which have a mixed reputation within open source circles.
This event provides a chance to meet like-minded individuals, discover new tools, and immerse ourselves in the thriving world of open source development. To learn more about the event click here: https://fosdem.org/2025/
OpenInfra Summit
The OpenInfra Summit is a big event for the open infrastructure community. With a focus on projects like OpenStack, Kata Containers, StarlingX, and other open source technologies, the summit offers a platform for collaboration, innovation, and learning. This year is extra special as we will also be celebrating OpenStack’s 15th Birthday, together with the OpenInfra Foundation.
While the exact location and dates for 2025 are still being finalized, there’s speculation it will take place somewhere in Europe (Amsterdam or Paris). This aligns with the event’s goal of making open source infrastructure accessible to a global audience.
Notably, there’s an opportunity for us (Fairbanks) to contribute to the event’s organization, which would be an exciting way to deepen our involvement in the open source community and support the event’s mission. To keep yourself updated on the event click here.
T-DOSE
T-DOSE (Technical Dutch Open Source Event) is a grassroots event that highlights the importance of open source in today’s tech-driven world. Set in the picturesque town of Geldrop in The Netherlands, the conference focuses on local and global open source initiatives.
Held May 31st and June 1st, the event promises a mix of technical talks, hands-on workshops, and opportunities to engage with passionate developers. Unlike larger conferences, T-DOSE offers a more intimate setting, which fosters deeper conversations and collaborations.
As advocates of open source, we find this event especially appealing for its accessibility and focus on the Dutch open source ecosystem. Click here to learn more: https://t-dose.org/2025/
Cephalocon
Cephalocon is the annual conference dedicated to the Ceph community, a cutting-edge open source solution for scalable storage. The event is an essential gathering for operators, developers, and researchers who work with Ceph.
The conference usually features hands-on sessions, success stories, and deep dives into Ceph’s capabilities, making it invaluable for anyone using or exploring Ceph for their infrastructure. While the details for 2025 are still pending, the event that was held in Switzerland last December, typically rotates through global locations.
With Ceph being a critical part of modern storage infrastructures, we’re keen to stay updated on the event’s details.
KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe
KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe is the go-to conference for the Kubernetes and cloud-native community. Hosted by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, this event brings together leading technologists, adopters, and contributors to discuss the latest advancements in Kubernetes, microservices, and container orchestration.
The 2025 edition will be held in London From April 1st until 4th, and is set to feature keynote sessions, panel discussions, and technical workshops, providing a holistic view of the cloud-native landscape. With its broad scope and relevance to many industries, this event is a must-attend for anyone working in modern IT infrastructure.
Beyond the sessions, the networking opportunities are unmatched, making it a key event on our calendar.
Considering hosting our own event
In 2024, we organized the CloudStack and Ceph Day. This event marked a significant return, as the last gathering of its kind was held in 2019. Collaborating with ShapeBlue and Adyen, we aimed to create an event for tech enthusiasts, developers, and industry experts to discuss the latest advancements in CloudStack and Ceph technologies.
The event was held in Amsterdam and about 150 attendees subscribed, all eager to learn and share their insights. The positive feedback we received underscored the value of such gatherings in strengthening the open source community.
Building on the success and learnings from the 2024 event, we are inspired to explore the possibility of hosting another event this year. Our goal is to continue collaboration, sharing knowledge, and contributing to the growth of the open source ecosystem.
